Prospering in Trials—4 Fresh Perspectives on the Problems You're Facing

Everyday marketplace believers face trials. Whether from slow-paying customers, absentee employees, competitor aggression or equipment breakdowns, believers in business face continual, never ending trials on our quest toward profitability and impact.

As I teach in my free resource,  "31 Power Prayers to Prosper Your Business," there are dozens of powerful Scriptures that pave the way for your business prosperity, to guide you through the inevitable marketplace trials you face.

So how does a marketplace believer prosper in these trials?

Here is a verse by verse breakdown of powerful revelations contained within James 1:2-5 on how to prosper from trials.

Prosper From Trials

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds" (James 1:2).

Have you ever said to yourself or to someone else, "Lord, are you serious? I should be joyful in my trials? Are you kidding me?" If you have not said this sometime in your life, then you should write the rest of this post!

In this context, "count it all joy" means we are to intelligently appraise the trial from God's perspective—not ours. "Trials" means a path to moral and spiritual growth.

Together, verse 2 teaches us to step back from the trial and take a God view of the spiritual growth we will gain.

"For you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness" (James 1:3).

If you are anything like me, you do not enjoy the testing of our faith. Here, "testing" implies we are creating the discipline to purge our faith from the dross. As our souls and hearts are being purged of all that is false, wrong or hindering us from reaching our destiny, God is growing within us the discipline to be cleansed and purified for even greater works.

"And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" (James 1:4).

We've all been told to never pray for patience (steadfastness) because that brings on another trial. Yet patience does not mean to hold on, wait it out, and just suffer until the pain goes away. On the contrary, "steadfastness" here means that through this trial, you are developing a spiritual steadfastness to endure—what I call courage through adversity.

My wife, Brenda, vibrantly displayed "patience" during her recent victory over an aggressive lymphoma and six very aggressive chemo treatments. Regardless of her lack of strength, stamina or physical discomfort, she bravely and relentlessly spoke out bold declarations of healing and supernatural recovery—many times every day! Her spiritual steadfastness muscles are now fully developed.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him" (James 1:5).

In this verse, "wisdom" means gaining supernatural spiritual understanding without any sense of condemnation or lack. As you gain endurance and steadfastness, ask God to replace the removed dross with supernatural wisdom.

4 Fresh Revelations on Trials

When you weave together the true intent of what James taught the dispersed, severely persecuted church, he reveals:

  1. Take God's eternal perspective of your trials.
  2. Rejoice not in the trail but in the moral and spiritual growth you gain.
  3. Be thankful all your spiritual and flesh impurities are exposed and removed.
  4. Remember, the results of your trial will be supernatural wisdom without limits.

Action Plan

To jumpstart your profiting in your current trial, here are two questions you need to answer and one thing you must do.

  1. What junk or impurities is God removing within me during this trial?
  2. What wisdom is growing in its place?
  3. Thank God for greater spiritual maturity.

Final Revelation

During a recent trial of mine, God downloaded this revelation.

As my dross and impurities are surfaced and removed, the enemy now has fewer hot buttons to push, which means I will eliminate many future similar trials.

Further, now with my newly acquired spiritual growth and supernatural wisdom, any future trial will be less intense, shorter in duration, and faster to overcome!

Now that is worthy to thank the Lord!
